A lot of fruit falls under the catagory of simple fruit. Simple fruits are then seperated between, fleshy fruit and dry fruit.

What is Fruit???

          When you hear the word fruit you are probably thinking of those delcious.... fruits, that we eat! But there is so much more to fruit than just the stuff we eat. By definition the fruit is the flowering part of a  plant that contains the seeds. There are fruits that we eat, Apple, Plums, Pear, Lemon, Banana and there are fruit that we don't eat, Milkweed pods, Holly, Ivy, Mistletoe and Suicide tree fruit (I wouldn't eat that either!) Tomorrow I will post about the different catagories of fruit.

The Great Schism

            The Great Schism was the seperation of the Eastern and Western Roman Church. The 5 main bishops were from Jerusalem, Alexandria, Antioch, Constantinople, and Rome and they were called patriarchies. They were supposed to be in a state of unity, but a dispute broke out between the bishop from Rome (he was the pope) and the bishop from Constantinople. The first act that spread them apart was that, Pope Leo III crowned Charlemange as the Holy Roman Emperor. However, the eastern part of the empire already had an Emperor! The second event was when the bishop from Constantinople didn't follow the Nicene Creed which was a statement of faith. As a result of these and some other events. The bishops from Rome and Constantinople excomunicated each other in 1054. (not the same two popes...)

Agatha Christie

Recently for school I have been reading some Agatha Christie novels. So for an assignment I am going to write about Agatha Christie.
 
     Agatha Christie was born September 15th 1890. She started writing short stories when she was 18 and her first book, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, was published in 1920 when she was 30 years old.  When she was 24 she married a man named Archie Christie, he was a World War I fighter pilot. While he was fighting Agatha worked as a nurse. In 1926 Archie asked for a divorce, and Agatha disappeared. She was found 3 weeks later and she claimed that she had lost her memory. So no one really told her about Archie. In 1930 she remarried a guy name Max Mallowan. At the end of it all, she had written over 66 novels, as well as many short stories and screenplays. She also wrote a series of romantic novels under the pen name of Mary Westmacott.

Swimming across the lake

Something I forgot to mention about my trip to Michigan is that on the second to last day we swam all the way across the lake, from one side back to my Grandparents house. It took about 30 minutes but it was a lot of fun. I was pretty tired by the end and ready to be done. My little cousin Ryan, who is 5, swam across for the first time which was great for him. I am not sure if he actually swam the whole time, but at least he tried it!

The begining of my new soccer career

Yesterday I had my first practice in Iowa City, It was a lot of fun. I am very excited for the up coming season. It will deffinently make the hour and a half drive worth it. We, myself and two others from my old team, and we just kind of hung around a while getting to know the other guys. I already knew most of them pretty well, cause I had guest played with them. Then we started playing some, we just passed the ball around in a gride. Then we played some small sided posestion. After that we played on a small field to goal. We have another one on Thursday and the first game is only a few weeks away! I also have started training for Cross Country alot and out first meet is September the 2nd.

Protostar Camp

Last week I went to a creative arts camp at my church. It was so much fun! Every day we all showed up, 12 of us, and just hung around for a while. Then we practiced the dance we were doing as a big group, which was awesome! After that we split in groups, Drama and Spoken Word. I was in the Spoken Word group. At the end of the week we had a nice performance to show what we had worked on.

Gurdians of the Galaxy

Two days ago a couple of my friends and I went to the "Midnight showing" (actually at 10:00 pm) of Gurdians of the Galaxy. It was really fun, The movie iteslf wasn't fivestar entertainment, but I wouldn't put it much lower than four star. I had a good mix of light heartedness and actuall serious plot line. Also, since we were some of the first ones there we each got gurdians of the galaxy pins,
Everybody except myself got a Drax pin, I got a Starlord pin. I would put up an image, but I couldn't find a very good picture.

After a week long vacation I am back to the bloging business. We went up to my Grandma and Granpas house which I haven't been to since last summer. My cousin, who is about a year older than me, and I had a great time. We did a lot of tubing and working out in my Grandparents basement, we even put the rest of the family through a circut training! We also tried water sking for the first time and that was awesome. My cousin, David, wasn't able to get up all the way but he got close. I got up on my first try and even tried to drop a ski at the end of my run..... It didn't work out to well. But it was still a really great time.

World Cup

For those of you who don't know, the final stages of the world cup were last month ending this month. USA did the same as they did the last world cup so not a huge success or dissapointment there.  Brazil, the favorties to win, got 4th after a stunning loss to Germany 7-1 and a loss to the Dutch 3-0. Germany would go on to win the world cup by beating Argentina in the finals.

Drivers Education

Today marks the day that I am officially done with Drivers Ed. I took my test yesterday and scored a 90% you need an 80% to pass. Today I got my certificate saying that I had done all of my 6 hours of drivning and that I had passed the test. Also, today a speaker fromt he DOT Drivers. (department of transportaion) She frankly wasn't very interesting. So, now when I turn 16, October 21, I can drive!!!! Better clear the streets so nobody gets hurt!

Swimming Lessons Experiance

Last week I finished the swimming lessons that I was takeing. I feel that I learned a ton and really enjoyed the experiance of trying something new. I mostly worked on freestyle with a bit of backstroke thrown in.  By the end, I could do a 25 yard freestyle swim in 20 seconds which isn't bad since I really had no idea how to even swim when I started. The highlights of the lessons were when I did a 5 minute swim, I thought that was really hard. And then I had to do a 10 minute swim, which was supprisonly easier or at least as easy. I think it didn't seem as hard cause I got more of a rhythm the second time. I also got to go off the diving board which was fun. I am really glad I got to experiance actual swiming was like.

Yesterday I did the observation thing where I sit around and observe things. I was told to observe birds and find one that I didn't recognize. I only saw two birds and I recognized them both. They were a Catbird and a Warbler. I did see the shadow of a big bird flying over head, but I didn't see the bird.

What I think about the 4th of July

Today I am supposed to write what I think about the 4th of July.
             I think it is a nice holiday to remember the day we (not we personally of course!) signed the decleration of the independance, to watch fireworks and to hang out with your friends. Also, the glowsticks and sparklers are fun.

More Drivers Ed

 I started my second week of drivers ed this week. After today I have only 7 more days until I am done. That is, of course, if I pass my test. I am not to worried about it though. Tomorrow is the cities firework display and airshow we're going to have some friends over for that which should be pretty cool. On the 4th there is another fireworks display at the country club that I might go see. But besides that I don't really have anything going on currently. In a couple of weeks I am going up to Michigan with my family and then spending an extra week with my cousin and grandparents, I am really excited for that.

Drivers ED

This week I started takeing drivers ed at one of the local driveing schools. After today, I have 4 of my 6 hours of driveing that is required to pass the class. Today we worked on parallel parking, it really wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I was expecting a lot of elaborate steps to the process but it was actually really easy. Before I can get my drivers license I need to get 20 hours of driveing with 4 of them being at night. I have 10 hours and 1 hour and 5 mins are at night.

Swimming Lessons

        Starting yesterday, I started takeing swimming lessons from a guy at my church named Rick Loeffelholz. I got there and he had me swim across the pool with the little knowledge of swimming that I had. Then we had some lessons and he taught me how to different strokes, by the end even I could tell that there had been improvement on my part. Then at the end he taught me how to dive in to the water and that was a lot of fun.

Soccer Tournament in Kalamazoo MI

Last weekend I guest played for a soccer team that is based in Iowa City. I have played against them before but this was my first time playing with them.
      After a 6 or 7 hour drive, of which I drove 2 hours, we arrived in Kalamazoo with plenty of time to warmup before our first game. The first game didn't go to well, we lost 5-2. The other team scored the first goal and held on to the lead to finish the first half. At the start of the second half we came out strong and scored a goal. The goal was very good, I got the ball and passed it to another player in the middle, he turned and shot from probably 30 yards out and chipped the goalkeeper. After that the other team scored two more goals. We answered with a goal off of a penalty. But it wasn't enough to keep us in the game. They scored a couple more goals and the game was over.
       The following day we had our second game which was much better all around. We started really well and went up a goal quickly in to the game. Despite controlling practically the entire half, we went in to half time with the score 1-1. In the second half we agian controlled the run of play but weren't able to come out on top. The game ended 3-2.
      Our third and final game was by far our best game of the tournament. We played really well and domintaed the entire game. The final score was 6-1.

More sitting for long periods of time.

The other day I tried again to go sit outside for a while and just think/do nothing. The only difference was that my mother wanted me to try and define contentment..... so, here we go. I think contentment is a state of being, where you are happy and content with what you have at the moment. And that is basicly what I came up with.

I am back!!

          It has been a long time since I last wrote on this blog, but I am planning to start up again over the summer.
     Today my mother and I had a sort of experiment. We went outside, chose a spot, and sat for about 20 minutes just basicly doing nothing. No music, no books, no nothing. It was a good start I would say, but it wasn't great. I almost fell asleep at least once. So, I didn't get much of the reflective part. I will try again and update.
